Handwritten Digit Recognition is a machine learning and deep learning project designed to recognize handwritten numerical digits from images. The system processes input images and uses a trained classification model to identify digits from 0 to 9. By applying image preprocessing and neural network techniques, it predicts the most likely digit and displays the result through a user-friendly interface. This project can be used in digitizing handwritten forms, processing postal codes, recognizing numerical entries, and educational applications.
Traditional handwritten digit entry requires people to read handwritten numbers and enter them manually into digital systems. This process can be slow and may lead to errors, particularly when processing large numbers of forms or records.
The proposed system uses a trained machine learning or deep learning model to recognize handwritten digits from uploaded images or a drawing canvas. The input image is converted to grayscale, resized, normalized, and supplied to the classification model. A Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) trained on a dataset such as MNIST predicts the digit and displays the result, optionally including the model's confidence score.
