The Uncertainty-Aware Clinical Decision-Support System is a machine learning project designed to assist healthcare professionals in making informed clinical decisions by predicting possible medical conditions and estimating the uncertainty associated with each prediction. Traditional machine learning models often provide predictions without indicating how reliable those predictions are. This project integrates machine learning algorithms such as Logistic Regression, Random Forest, and XGBoost with uncertainty estimation techniques to generate predictions alongside confidence measures. The system analyzes patient data, including symptoms, medical history, and clinical parameters, depending on the selected dataset. It identifies cases where predictions are uncertain and may require further medical evaluation. An interactive dashboard displays predicted outcomes, confidence levels, uncertainty indicators, and relevant visualizations. The proposed system aims to improve prediction transparency, support risk-aware clinical review, and help healthcare professionals identify cases that require additional attention. It is intended as a decision-support prototype and does not replace professional medical judgment.
Existing clinical prediction systems commonly use rule-based methods or machine learning models to estimate disease risk. Many systems provide a predicted class or probability without adequately communicating uncertainty or the limitations of the prediction.
The proposed system combines machine learning with uncertainty estimation to provide predictions alongside indicators of their reliability.
Patient data is collected and preprocessed before being supplied to trained classification models. Uncertainty can be estimated using techniques such as predictive probability analysis, model ensembles, Monte Carlo dropout for suitable neural networks, or conformal prediction. The system identifies predictions that are uncertain according to predefined thresholds and flags them for further review.
A web-based dashboard displays predicted conditions, estimated probabilities, uncertainty indicators, and model performance metrics. Calibration methods can be applied to improve the reliability of predicted probabilities. The system supports clinical review rather than independently diagnosing patients or recommending treatment.
