Diabetes Risk Prediction is a machine learning-based healthcare application designed to predict whether a person is at risk of developing diabetes based on various health-related parameters. The system analyzes factors such as age, gender, body mass index (BMI), blood glucose level, blood pressure, insulin level, number of pregnancies, and other relevant medical attributes. A machine learning classification model is trained using a diabetes dataset to identify patterns associated with diabetes. After entering the required health information, the system processes the data and provides a predicted risk result. The proposed system can help users and healthcare professionals identify potential diabetes risk at an early stage and encourage timely medical consultation and lifestyle management. The system is intended as a risk-prediction/decision-support tool and not as a medical diagnosis.
In the existing system, diabetes risk assessment is generally performed through clinical consultation and laboratory investigations. Healthcare professionals examine the patient's medical history, symptoms, lifestyle, blood glucose measurements, BMI, blood pressure, and other health parameters before determining whether additional testing is required.
The proposed Diabetes Risk Prediction System uses machine learning techniques to estimate diabetes risk from user-provided health parameters. A historical diabetes dataset is collected and preprocessed by handling missing values, removing inconsistencies, scaling numerical features when required, and preparing the data for model training.
Different classification algorithms such as Logistic Regression, Decision Tree, Random Forest, Support Vector Machine (SVM), or K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) can be evaluated. The selected model is trained using the processed dataset and tested using appropriate evaluation metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and ROC-AUC.
The trained model is integrated into a user-friendly application. Users can enter their health information, and the system processes the input and displays the predicted diabetes-risk category. The system can also provide a clear message recommending professional medical consultation when the predicted risk is elevated.
Collect a suitable diabetes dataset containing relevant health attributes and a target variable indicating diabetes status.
Analyze relationships between variables such as glucose level, BMI, age, blood pressure, and diabetes outcome using statistical analysis and visualizations.
Identify the most relevant features that contribute to diabetes-risk prediction and remove unnecessary features where appropriate.
Divide the dataset into training and testing sets, for example:
Train suitable machine learning classification algorithms using the training dataset.
Evaluate the trained models using:
Select an appropriate model based on its performance and suitability for the application rather than relying only on accuracy.
Develop a user interface using a framework such as Streamlit or Flask. Provide input fields for relevant health parameters.
Pass the user's input through the same preprocessing pipeline used during training and generate the diabetes-risk prediction.
Test the application with different valid input combinations and verify that the system produces consistent outputs.
Deploy the trained model and application to a suitable local or cloud environment for demonstration or controlled use.
