Medical Insurance Cost Prediction is a machine learning-based application designed to estimate the potential medical insurance cost of an individual based on demographic, lifestyle, and health-related factors. The system analyzes parameters such as age, gender, BMI, number of children, smoking status, and geographical region to identify patterns that influence medical insurance charges. A machine learning regression model is trained using historical insurance data to learn the relationship between these factors and insurance costs. After entering the required information, the system processes the data and provides an estimated insurance cost. The proposed system can support cost estimation, data analysis, and insurance planning.
In the existing system, medical insurance costs are generally estimated using predefined pricing rules, actuarial calculations, historical claims information, and various customer characteristics. Insurance providers evaluate factors such as age, health conditions, lifestyle, and other policy-related information when determining premiums or charges.
The proposed Medical Insurance Cost Prediction System uses machine learning regression techniques to estimate medical insurance costs based on customer information. The dataset is preprocessed by handling missing values, removing inconsistencies, encoding categorical variables, and scaling numerical features when required.
Regression algorithms such as Linear Regression, Decision Tree Regression, Random Forest Regression, Gradient Boosting, and Support Vector Regression (SVR) can be trained and compared. The models can be evaluated using metrics such as Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Mean Squared Error (MSE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), and R² score.
The selected model is integrated into a user-friendly application. Users can enter their demographic and lifestyle information, and the system processes the input to generate an estimated medical insurance cost.
Collect a suitable medical insurance dataset containing customer information and corresponding insurance charges.
Analyze relationships between insurance charges and factors such as age, BMI, smoking status, number of children, and region.
Identify important features that contribute to insurance cost estimation and remove unnecessary attributes where appropriate.
Divide the dataset into training and testing sets, for example:
Train multiple regression algorithms using the prepared training dataset.
Evaluate the trained models using:
Select a suitable regression model based on its overall prediction performance.
Develop a user-friendly interface using Streamlit or Flask for entering customer details.
Pass the entered information through the same preprocessing pipeline and trained model to generate the estimated insurance cost.
Test the application using different valid customer profiles and verify the prediction workflow.
Deploy the application locally or on a suitable cloud platform for demonstration and controlled use.
