The Fertilizer Recommendation System is a machine learning-based agricultural application designed to recommend suitable fertilizers according to soil nutrients, crop type, and environmental conditions. The system analyzes parameters such as Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), soil pH, moisture, temperature, humidity, and crop type to determine the fertilizer that can best support crop growth. By using historical agricultural data and machine learning techniques, the system provides data-driven fertilizer recommendations. This helps reduce excessive fertilizer usage, improve soil health, increase crop productivity, and support sustainable farming practices.
In the existing system, farmers commonly select fertilizers based on traditional knowledge, previous farming experience, local recommendations, or general fertilizer guidelines. Soil testing may be performed manually, but the results are not always combined with crop and environmental information to generate personalized recommendations.
The proposed Fertilizer Recommendation System uses machine learning algorithms to identify suitable fertilizers based on soil properties, crop information, and environmental conditions. The user enters parameters such as N, P, K, pH, moisture, temperature, humidity, and crop type. The trained machine learning model analyzes these values and recommends an appropriate fertilizer.
The system can use classification algorithms such as Random Forest, Decision Tree, KNN, Support Vector Machine, or other suitable machine learning algorithms. The best-performing model is integrated into an application that provides fertilizer recommendations through a simple interface.
Soil & Crop Data → Data Preprocessing → Feature Selection → ML Model → Fertilizer Prediction → Recommendation
Collect an agricultural dataset containing soil nutrient values, crop types, environmental conditions, and corresponding fertilizer recommendations.
Clean the dataset by handling missing values, duplicate records, inconsistent data, and incorrect entries.
Analyze relationships between soil nutrients, crop types, environmental conditions, and fertilizer requirements.
Select important parameters such as N, P, K, pH, moisture, temperature, humidity, and crop type.
Divide the dataset into training and testing sets and train multiple machine learning classification models.
Compare the models using metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and confusion matrix.
Select the model that provides the best performance for fertilizer recommendation.
Develop a user interface where users can enter soil, crop, and environmental information.
Pass the user-provided values to the trained model and generate the recommended fertilizer.
Display the recommended fertilizer along with relevant input parameters and, where appropriate, usage guidance.
